MTI Workforce Scholarship
Listen Up! This scholarship could have your name on it.
Up to half of a student’s two year AAS degree tuition and fee cost can be paid by the Critical Needs Workforce Scholarship.

The Critical Needs Workforce Scholarship program was created to train workers and develop those skills necessary to fill critically-short skilled positions within South Dakota industry. South Dakota is currently facing acute shortages of skilled workers—especially in the manufacturing industry. At the Workforce Summit held at Mitchell Technical Institute last November, the manufacturing industry identified a shortage of over 2,000 workers in just the James River Valley alone (from Aberdeen to Yankton), while the U.S. has over 600,000 skilled worker jobs that aren’t able to be filled.

The unexpected rapid recovery of manufacturing in South Dakota and the United States at large is great news for the long term health of our economy and our place in the world.  To lose the momentum bringing back manufacturing to this country because of a shortage of skilled workers—especially when there are so many without jobs and without hard skills—would be a squandering of opportunity that may never come your way again.

Mitchell Technical Institute programs eligible for this scholarship:

So, what is the catch? You must maintain a 2.5 GPA while enrolled in these programs and you must spend four years in South Dakota industries that are in need of these critical skills after you graduate—or you'll pay this scholarship back.
