The Medical Office Professional is a two year Associate Degree Program that prepares students to perform general duties in a physician's office, hospital, clinic, or other health care agency. Duties may include reception, appointment scheduling, specialty services and surgical scheduling, managing and scheduling other employees in the medical facility, managing financial operations, interviewing and preparing patients prior to examination, maintaining medical records, transcribing correspondence, billing and coding and medical reports. Students will apply knowledge of medical terminology, word processing and spreadsheet skills.

Admission Requirement: All students applying to the program must submit to a criminal background check at the student’s expense. Details are available from the Admissions office.
At the completion of the program, graduates will be able to:
- Manage front office duties such as reception, insurance monitoring, record maintenance and bookkeeping.
- Competently use medical terminology required in medical correspondence, preparing forms, documents, and transcribed material.
- Possess appropriate skills in software applications to manage records and data electronically.
- Demonstrate proficiency in computerized billing in entering and/or processing medical insurance claims.
- Demonstrate effective communication and interpersonal skills when working with clients, coworkers, and physicians.
- Demonstrate a thorough understanding of the legal and ethical standards and dilemmas facing the medical profession.

Job Outlook
Due to the aging Baby Boomer population, the medical industry in general is expected to have higher than average job growth for the next seven years. According to www.bls.gov, there will be at least a twenty percent increase in the number of entry-level medical office jobs nationwide between now and 2014.
