RIVER FALLS, WISC., September 11, 2023—The Mitchell Tech Mavericks left Wisconsin with a pair of second-place finishes following the 58th Annual Falcon Frontier Days at the University of Wisconsin-River Falls over the weekend.
Bull rider Chazz Gabe of Timber Lake and saddle bronc rider Holden Eisemann of Glenham led the Mavericks to their overall sixth place finish, with tie-down ropers Cavin Olson of Princeton, Minn., and Tyler Esser of Frankfort joining them in the finals Saturday night.
On the women’s side, barrel racer Teya Moody of Letcher missed the finals by a few hundredths of a second.
This year’s roster includes four returners and 11 new athletes, as well as one red shirt. Women’s returners include Mitchell barrel racer and breakaway roper Sam Ford, Abbi Graham of Pinedale, Wyo., while Olson and Gabe bring experience to the men’s team.
“We’re young, and we’ve got a lot of potential,” Jimmie Nicolaus, head coach for the Mavericks, said. “Now that we’ve got those first-rodeo jitters out of the way, it’ll be exciting to see where this team goes.”
The Mavericks travel to North Platte, Neb., Thursday for the Mid-Pains Community College rodeo.
