Two Mitchell Tech Mavericks finished in the top five in their respective events at the Iowa State Cyclone Stampede in Ames, Iowa, over the weekend, ranking the team seventh in the Great Plains Region of the National Intercollegiate Rodeo Association.
Garrett Varilek finished second in saddle bronc riding, and Tucker Even finished fifth in steer wrestling.
The following members ranked individually in region standings:
• 1st in saddle bronc riding: Varilek
• 3rd in bull riding: Chazz Gabe
• 5th in saddle bronc riding: Forrest Wagoner
• 5th in tie-down roping: Myles Clements
• 6th in steer wrestling: Even
• 11th in team roping (heeler): Kail Vaith
• 12th in steer wrestling: Wyatt Cahoy
The Mavericks travel to Spearfish this weekend for the Will Lantis Yellow Jacket Stampede.
