Mavericks’ Qualifiers Cost Jimmie his Mustache!

Ever say something and later you wonder what you were thinking (See photo below)?

The rodeo team reminded last night that at the first Rodeo Team meeting last fall I supposedly mentioned that if the Mavericks had qualifiers to the College National Finals Rodeo this season, I would shave off my moustache.  Dalton Kelly-Richter has qualified so now I have to hold up my end.

At 2:00 pm on Monday, May 3rd, I will shave (or have shaved for me) my moustache in the cafeteria at the north campus.  Now this may not seem like much until you consider that I think my oldest of three sons is the only one to see me without one.

When the proverbial dust settled at the Blue Hawk Round-up at Dickinson State University, the MTI Mavericks Rodeo Team has another qualifier to the College National Finals Rodeo!!!!!  I refer to proverbial dust because dust was the last thing we had to contend with over the weekend.  The wind blew out of the WNW no less than 20 mph and there was at least a mist to light rain all weekend topped by snow this morning before we started home.  Dalton Kelly-Richter (Tel Com I, Quinn, SD) used this last opportunity of the season to make the cut for the Casper, WY rodeo to be held the second weekend of June.  After being blanked at the Yellow Jacket Stampede last weekend, the pressure was on to finish strong, and that he did.

Dalton qualified for the championship round at Dickinson in ninth place in the Team Roping and fourth in the Steer Wrestling.  He needed to good runs in both events to lock his qualification.  With partner PJ Painter (BLKHIL) in the team roping, he finished fourth in the round and fifth in the aggregate to finish third for the season.  In the Steer Wrestling, he qualified for the championship round in fourth, ended up sixth in that round, and fifth in the aggregate to hold third place for the year by 5.5 points.  The top three in each event move on the CNFR.

Also making the championship round at Dickinson were Mikey Loiseau (ECM II, Egan, SD) with partner Kelly Roshau (NDSU) who ended the rodeo tied for third overall, and Brady Gaer with partner Cassie Sigman (SDSU).

Rounding out the year-end standings for the MTI Mavericks are Loiseau finishing 14th in both the Tie-Down and Team Roping, Gaer was 17th in the Team Roping, and Tanner Lolley (ECM I, White River, SD) 20th in both the Tie-Down and  Team Roping.  Travis Spiel (Power Sport I, Parade, SD) ended-up eighth in the Saddle Bronc Riding, and the Bull Riding includes Derek Long (ECM II, Timber Lake, SD and Troy Lindskov (ECM II, Isabel, SD) finishing ninth and 13th respectively.  In the team standing for the Great Plains Region, the Mavericks finished in fifth place.

Thanks,
Jimmie
