MTI Breaks Enrollment Record

Another set of enrollment records has been broken at Mitchell Technical Institute with its largest enrollment ever recorded in Fall 2013.

The total number of students enrolled is 1227, up from 1097 in Fall 2012 and 1108 in Spring 2013.  That represents a 12% increase in just one year.

The school has also set a record with its largest entering freshman class, 648 first-year students.  The freshman class has increased 9% over last year’s freshman class of 593.  The remaining 579 students are either returning or part-time students.

According to MTI president Greg Von Wald, the enrollment increase is attributable to several factors.  “Obviously, our new campus with its highly visible location, and our outstanding placement rate of 98% are appealing to students and families alike.  Overall, technical education is seeing a surge in popularity statewide.  We offer a high quality education at an affordable cost with numerous employment opportunities available to most graduates.”

Several scholarship packages are also playing a part in the school’s attractiveness.  This year there are 36 Star Scholars (those with an ACT score of 24 or higher and a high school GPA of 3.0 or higher); 11 South Dakota Opportunity scholars; 17 students receiving Critical Workforce Needs scholarships; and 99 Legacy Scholars (those whose parent, grandparent or sibling graduated from MTI).MTI will host the ribbon cutting and grand opening of the $18.5 million Trades Center on Tuesday, September 17.  This is the first time in the school’s 45-year history that all programs are located on one campus.
