Mitchell Technical Institute has been named a 2015 STEM Jobs Approved College by Victory Media. STEM Jobs are careers related to science, technology, engineering and math. The 2015 inaugural list is the first of its kind to rate universities, colleges, community colleges and technical institutes on their responsiveness and relevance to high demand, high growth STEM occupations.
MTI president Greg Von Wald was excited to learn about the designation. “We have known for a long time that many of today’s fastest growing jobs require a solid foundation in STEM areas. MTI has a 45-year history in producing highly skilled technicians in many of the occupational areas incorporating science, technology, engineering and math.” He want on to say, “As we try to fill the demand in South Dakota for skilled technicians, STEM will become even more important to secondary and post-secondary students.”
Daniel Nichols, president of STEM Jobs, said, “With the list of STEM Jobs Approved Colleges we’re able to help parents, students and guidance counselors evaluate how well education is translating into real-world jobs, and how responsive institutions are to meeting those demands. We’re pleased to showcase schools like Mitchell Technical Institute as a school leading the way in this area.”
MTI was among over 1,600 schools participating in the STEM Jobs survey process. Schools submitting completed surveys were scored on publicly available data and responses to proprietary questions around three key indicators of success: STEM job alignment, STEM job placement, and diversity in a school’s STEM programs. MTI will be featured in the Winter 2015 issue of STEM Jobs magazine, along with the entire 2015 list of STEM Jobs Approved Colleges.
