Citing a “difficult decision,” Mitchell Technical Institute president Greg Von Wald has announced his retirement at the end of this school year.
In a letter to staff members and advisory council members, Von Wald said, “I love what I am doing and feel that, in some small way, what we are doing is making a difference in our state’s economy and I like that thought.”
Von Wald took over leadership of the Institute in 2008. During his tenure as president, the Spruce Street campus was completed; the school experienced record enrollment growth, up nearly 60%; and eleven programs were added to the school’s curriculum, with six more modified for online delivery.
He commended the staff for having “individually and collectively succeeded in establishing MTI as a leader in technical education nationally.”
Von Wald, a retired Marine lieutenant colonel, came to MTI from a career in the telecommunications industry. He is looking forward to spending more time with his son and grandson in the Black Hills area. His retirement is effective June 30, 2015.
