“Mitchell Technical Institute’s vision and leadership is a model for all educational institutions,” said East River Electric General Manager Tom Boyko. “MTI has been a fantastic partner and I’m excited to see what the future brings with our strong relationship.”
Out of East River’s 127 employees, 48 are Mitchell Tech graduates which is 38 percent of the cooperative’s workforce. Mitchell Tech has developed programing for training line workers, telecommunications professionals and substation technicians. East River has also partnered with MTI by providing equipment that is used to train students for their chosen profession.
East River partnered with MTI to develop a “Wind Smith” program and was instrumental in helping obtain a grant to purchase one of the wind turbines located at the Crow Lake wind farm which the school uses to train MTI students.
