Mitchell Technical Institute student Dalton Kelly-Richter, Quinn, SD, has qualified for the College National Finals Rodeo (CNFR) to be held June 13-19 in Casper, WY. Kelly-Richter, a Telecommunications student at MTI, qualified for the CNFR in two events: Steer Wrestling and Team Roping with his partner and header P.J. Painter, Black Hills State University. Kelly-Richter is the first double-qualifier MTI has ever sent to the CNFR and the fifth student from the school to compete at nationals.
To qualify, Kelly-Richter placed third in each of his events in the overall standings of the National Intercollegiate Rodeo Association/Great Plains Region. He won or placed in eight of ten college rodeos during the 2009-2010 season. Season highlights included wins in Steer Wrestling at the University of Wisconsin-River Falls and the University of Nebraska-Lincoln and the Team Roping event at South Dakota State University. His cumulative points placed him fourth all-around in the regional standings.
The MTI team placed fifth in the regional standings.
Kelly-Richter, a 2009 graduate of Wall High School, will travel to Casper with MTI rodeo coach Jimmie Nicolaus.
