Rod Bowar Memorial Scholarship

Kennebec Telephone Company

Rod owned Kennebec Telephone Company, providers of telephone, cable TV and internet service to Kennebec, Presho and rural Lyman County. He joined the company in 1977 and purchased it in 1998. Rod was passionate about providing the best opportunities possible for his family and community. He served on many different boards and committees, including serving on the Mitchell Technical College Foundation Board. Two of Rod’s children were Mitchell Tech grads, and his businesses employ multiple Mitchell Tech graduates.
2.5 GPA or greater Programs eligible: WIFI/Broadband Technology, Electrical Construction & Maintenance, any Business related program

The Vickers Family Scholarship For Business & Information Technology

Chad & Jennifer Vickers

The Vickers Family Scholarship for Business & Information Technology was established in 2022. Chad Vickers graduated from the Computer Systems Technology program in 1996 and Chad and Jennifer’s son, Jude Vickers, graduated from the Business Management program in 2021. The Vickers Family attributes much of their life successes to the education they received from Mitchell Tech. This scholarship is for incoming students in either the Business or Information Technology program and is awarded for the Fall semester.

Marlene Hafner Barrow Endowed Scholarship

Tessier Family Foundation

Marlene Hafner Barrow, a 1969 alum of Mitchell Tech’s Secretarial program, went to work at Tessier’s Inc. immediately after graduation. She began her career in a Clerical/Payroll role and continued to be a tremendous asset to Tessier’s serving in several capacities, retiring in 2019 as a Executive Administrator. Upon her retirement, Tessier Family Foundation established this endowment to provide scholarships for students enrolled in the Business Management program.
Business Management
Applicant must be accepted as an incoming full-time student in the Business Management program. Applicant must have a GPA of 3.0 or higher. Applicant must complete the appropriate online scholarship application during the open application period. First preference to applicants from a 50-mile radius of Mitchell, SD excluding Mitchell and Huron students to award a student from a local small town. Applicant must demonstrate values that Marlene has displayed in her years of service to Tessier’s Inc. These include loyalty, integrity, leadership and compassion. Applicant must have a financial need, with first preference going to women who may not otherwise attend post-secondary education due to children, finances or other challenges.
